Emotional intelligence (EI) is an important factor in athletes’ psychological well-being, decision making, interpersonal relationships and performance. This review is holistic in approach, discussing the relative level of emotional intelligence among volleyball and badminton player: India's context-specific on a few variables like single vs. group sports; motivational achievement; female players' gender appeal and coaching aspect. Based on an extensive review of empirical studies carried out, this research integrates literature from psychological, behavioristic and sports science in a way that traces patterns, relationships and a differences related to emotional competencies. Volleyball, is a team game thus it naturally develops emotions and cooperation, badminton (doubles or singles), leans towards self-awareness and intrinsic motivation. The results highlight subtle differences between players in the two activities based on training exposure, competition level and learning environments. Its practical implications for sport psychologists, coaches and elite sport organisations to enhance EI through a range of sport-specific interventions are considered.
