Author(s):

Hussein Jassam Mohammed

Abstract:

The study aimed to identify the role of public libraries in community development in Salah al-Din by applying it to a deliberate sample from Salah al-Din Governorate. The results of the field study reached the following:

  1. The study revealed that most of the research sample, which numbered (100) individuals, visit public libraries, at a rate of 80% for both genders.
  2. The study showed that the research sample prefers to read political books, which obtained a rate of (61/30%), and social books, which obtained a rate of (512/25%), followed by cultural books at a rate of (26/13%). The reason for this is primarily due to the enlightenment that has occurred in public opinion.
  3. Public libraries have a good role in community development among the residents of Salah al-Din Governorate.
  4. The interaction between the public and the contents of public libraries is due to the understanding of libraries and their staff of the desires, knowledge and awareness that the local community is looking for, including them.
