Adolescence is a critical developmental stage marked by rapid physical, emotional, and cognitive changes. One of the most significant aspects of this period is the development of intelligence. Intelligence is the ability to solve problems and to adapt to and learn from life’s everyday experiences. The ability to solve problems the capacity to adapt and learn from experiences Includes characteristics such as creativity and interpersonal skills The mental abilities that enable one to adapt to, shape, or select one’s environment The ability to judge, comprehend, and reason the ability to understand and deal with people, objects, and symbols. Borderline intellectual functioning is a cognitive impairment that applies to people who have lower than average intelligence but do not have intellectual developmental disorder or mental retardation.
Methods: The aim of the study was to understand self-esteem, stress and coping among adolescent with borderline intelligence. The sample consists 100 adolescents with borderline intelligence and studying in 10th Standard. Intelligence test (MISIC), Self-esteem (Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale), Stress (Perceived Stress Scale) and coping scale (A-COPE scale) were administered to the adolescent.
Results: This study assessed the levels of self-esteem, stress and coping strategies among adolescent student with borderline intelligence at selected high schools, Kollam district Kerala, India. Overall, in this study results revealed that the majority of the students with borderline intelligence found to have low self-esteem, high-stress level, and inadequate coping strategies.
Conclusion: This study results revealed that the majority of the students with borderline intelligence found to have low self-esteem, high-stress level, and inadequate coping strategies. The initial evidence that the children’s required intervention in early stage and it has potential for successful implementation in schools.
