Abstract:

This article outlines a thorough plan for creating a sex education program in Chandigarh, India, for elementary school pupils in the 9-12 age range. The curriculum is tailored to equip students with age-appropriate information, emotional intelligence, and protective skills against abuse and exploitation, taking into account the developmental, cognitive, and emotional preparedness of children in this age range. Considering the alarming increase in reports of child sexual abuse as well as the prevalence of false information, the research stresses the critical need of organised sex education programs. It stresses the significance of culturally responsive pedagogy, stakeholder engagement, and interactive teaching methods for effective content delivery. The curriculum uses constructivist, experiential, and interactive approaches to build knowledge and retention. It is grounded in psychology theories by Piaget, Erikson, and Bandura and incorporates narrative, role-play, games, and visual aids. In addition to outlining the need of early intervention in fostering physical safety, mental well-being, and social awareness, the article examines previous research and educational paradigms that shape the curriculum's framework. As a consequence, we have a fresh, kid-focused strategy that teaches kids and gives them agency over their own learning so they can make thoughtful decisions.
